Watch Teenage Dreamer Katy Perry On Her First Tour In 2001

Before Katy Perry fell into cotton candy clouds and rainbow prisms and latex minidresses, she was a guitar-strumming teenager with chunky highlights and irritable skin. And, newly released footage from Katy's first tour more than 13 years ago reveals even more of this pre-pop star image, as Katy leaves home to play with a Christian rock band.
The video follows Katy on her tour bus while she repeatedly changes her hair and puts on makeup, intercut with shots of her singing and strumming an acoustic guitar à la Alanis Morissette. When asked about her favorite musicians, the 17-year-old cites Christian singer Nichole Nordemon and Grammy-winner Patty Griffin as influences. (Even though she's in her Kumbaya phase, she also mentions Bjork, foreshadowing her more colorful future.)

This footage is a rare perspective into the singer's talent before it was fully packaged realized. Katy seems nervous and insecure, yet genuinely excited to be on the road performing her music.
Look at you now, Katy. This black sheep became a Dark Horse.
