New NYC Restaurant Recommendations Best Food 2014

There are so many things we look forward to each fall — pumpkin spice lattes, blazer-appropriate temperatures, and Oktoberfest, to name a few. Lucky for New Yorkers (and their taste buds), the season also brings forth another major perk: The big wave of new restaurant openings around the city. Ahead, a list of newcomers to the already-amazing roster of eateries the city has to offer.

Why should you be excited about another NYC pizza joint? Because this one is run by Maialino chef Nick Anderer, who will be cooking his thin-crust Roman-style pies over an eight-foot-long grill at the Martha Washington hotel.

October
il Buco Alimentari alum Justin Smillie plans to offer up a Californian take on farm-to-table goodness. Translation? Super-unique seasonal dishes like sprouted chickpea croquettes and coffee-soaked lamb belly.

Empellon al Pastor
Late September
For the third Mexican resto in his growing empire, Alex Stupak decided to go the minimalist route. The menu at this low-key Alphabet City spot (which he describes as a bar and tortilleria), will focus on his favorite style of taco — al pastor.

Fall
The combination of Marc Meyer and Vicki Freeman (Five Points, Hundred Acres, Cookshop) with traditional Mexican dishes can only result in one thing: your new favorite brunch spot.

The only thing you really need to know about this new southern spot from Sarah Simmons — the North Carolina native behind Nolita’s City Grit pop-up — is the signature dish: fried chicken and a split of Champagne.

Ever wish that they served a nice côte de boeuf at Carbone? The Torrisi team is seriously mixing things up by opening a swanky French restaurant in The Ludlow hotel.

Enrique Olvera, the world famous chef behind Mexico City's Pujol, will serve an experimental à la carte menu of crazy, shareable plates at his first NYC restaurant. You know, stuff like mezcal-and-chile-spiked Manhattan clam chowder with a side of wild plants.

Tijuana Picnic
September
Kittichai's Alex Lopez is the chef behind this new Latin/Asian restaurant in the former Laugh Lounge space on the Lower East Side. With the Acme folks behind the project, we're expecting it to be an instant hit.
