Was there ever any doubt?
Iggy Azalea's earworm anthem "Fancy" has officially been crowned the song of the summer by Billboard. "Fancy" was in the top five of Billboard's Hot 100 for all but one of summer's 14 weeks — making it the runaway choice for the honor.
Any other year, this would be considered quite the feat for the previously unknown Aussie rapper. But, the summer of 2014 was an admittedly weak one for mainstream pop.
To illustrate just how anemic this year was? The runner-up was "Rude", the lazy reggae jam from another unknown act, MAGIC!.
This begs the question: Where were pop's heavy hitters? In the film business, summer is typically when the biggest movie stars on the planet flex their muscles. This year, we had to wait until late August — when Taylor Swift dropped "Shake It Off" — for someone from music's A-list to throw their hat in the race for song of the summer.

Unfortunately, it was too little, too late. Or, maybe just too late.
Had T-Swizzle unleashed her new single in June, there's no question that she'd be wearing the crown that now belongs to Iggy. (Billboard)
