After months of rabid speculation, HBO has finally confirmed that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in the second season of True Detective, putting rumors to rest.
After a carousel of leading men circled the project, Vaughn and Farrell became the frontrunners in August, along with actor Taylor Kitsch. Unlike last season, which featured buddy cops Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson), this season will center on three members of the law.
“Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder,” reads HBO's official release, issued today. With Vaughn cast as Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner," HBO is still on the hunt for two good guys to join Farrell's "compromised detective" Ray Velcoro.

Taylor Kitsch has been rumored for the other male lead, while anyone of these seven actresses are reported to be near landing the one female lead. We're rooting for Rosario Dawson, who would add some much needed diversity to the cast.
This past weekend, Farrell beat HBO to the punch, when he confirmed both his involvement in the show, and his excitement. "I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five moths to shoot," he said.
Shooting is expected to take place in California and unlike last season, which was shot entirely by Cary Fukunaga, this one will use multiple directors, the first being The Fast and the Furious' Justin Lin, who will direct the first two episodes.
