Just like vampires and the eternal rivalry between Team Edward and Team Jacob, the Twilight film franchise is immortal. It's been two years since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 hit theaters, and news comes that it will rise again. In a unique, new strategy, Lionsgate, Stephenie Meyer, and Facebook are teaming up to give fans and aspiring female filmmakers the chance to breathe new life into their favorite vampire saga.
The result will be a series of five short films called "The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga." Submissions will be judged by a group of female panelists including Kristen Stewart, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Julie Bowen, Catherine Hardwicke (director of the first Twilight movie), producer Cathy Schulman, Jennifer Lee (co-director of Frozen), and Twilight creator Stephenie Meyer herself. The competition also has the backing of Women in Film, an organization devoted to ending the dearth of female directors.

This also represents a renewed video effort from Facebook, where the winning films will be exclusively distributed. More contest details will soon be available on Tongal, a crowdsourcing platform. In addition to involvement with both the development and production of their films, the five contest winners will receive an unspecified cash prize and opportunities to advance their filmmaking career.
Fans will also be involved throughout the process. Not only will they help select the grand-prize winner, fans will use Facebook and Tongal to interact throughout the development and production process of the films.
If you've any directorial aspirations, this contest is a fantastic way to engage with a receptive community of movie fans. If you've any Twilight fanfic sitting around, this contest is also a fantastic way to engage with a receptive community of movie fans. Really, everyone wins. Well, maybe not Jacob. Dude can not catch a break.
