Well, it was only a matter of time. Few stars are brighter right now than Kerry Washington, which is why her transition from TV star to full-blown movie star felt imminent.
Washington will star in Is He The One, a romantic comedy from The Best Man Holiday director Malcolm D. Lee. The Scandal star will play a woman on her wedding day who recalls the greatest three loves of her life (in flashbacks, of course).
Who will she end up with? Will it be the fast-talking lawyer with an attitude? The high school sweetheart who left her for the military? Or, the good-natured best friend who's just kind of always been there for her? (Note: None of these rom-com archetypes are necessarily in the script, but they would be if we were writing it.)
Washington's rise to the A-list has been meteoric. Scandal is one of the most talked (and tweeted) about shows on the air, earning the 37-year-old back-to-back Emmy nods for leading actress in a drama. While Washington did have a major role in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, this will mark the first time she'll carry a movie on her own.
With an innate likability and the natural talent to back it, Washington is going to make this whole movie star thing look like a breeze. If she were a stock, now would be the time to buy. (Deadline)
