Tom Hiddleston isn't the only film star looking to make a move to the small screen. Scarlett Johansson has signed on to star in a TV miniseries adaptation of Edith Wharton's 1913 novel, The Custom of the Country. (Think Downton Abbey-esque gowns, witty barbs, and a critical eye cast upon old New York society.)
Speaking of Downton Abbey, its creator, Julian Fellowes, has credited Wharton's novel as an inspiration for the series. Johansson will play the ruthless Undine Spragg in the eight-episode series for Sony Pictures TV. She will also executive-produce the show, which hasn't yet landed on a specific network yet.

Slipping into a bone-crushing corset isn't actually something we'd like to do after just giving birth (or, you know, ever), but it's good to have Samantha ScarJo back in action. The fact that one of the best novelists of all time (female or otherwise) is getting some recognition at the same time? Well, that's just icing on the cake. (Deadline)
