First of all, did you remember that Bill Paxton is in Titanic? I've apparently completely blocked all non-"draw me like one of your French girls, Jack" details of this movie from my memory. Possibly because I first saw it with my parents on Christmas in 1997, and it's hard to fall head over heels for the poor-boy-rich-girl love story when you're sitting next to your dad. Also, never forget that Rose says "I'll never let go, Jack," and then she lets his hypothermia-ridden corpse get dragged into the depths of the freezing ocean. Call me a cynic, but that's some literal letting go right there.

But, I digress. I still remember the ending, when old Rose drops the Heart of the Ocean necklace into the ocean. Actually, Britney Spears' "Oops!...I Did It Again" video helped me remember the ending. Anyway, it was meant to be a romantic gesture, since Rose abandoned her old life in favor of the one of which she and Jack had dreamed when the rescue boat docked in New York. After dropping the necklace in the ocean, we're led to believe that she died and reunited with Jack aboard the Titanic.
That ending was apparently only one of the options James Cameron had for his romantic epic. In the alternate version below, everyone on the Heart of the Ocean recon mission witnesses Rose about to drop the necklace into the sea. Bill Paxton's character is in shock. She had it the whole time! But, he's been searching for the wrong type of bounty.
"You look for treasure in the wrong place, Mr. Lovett. Only life is priceless, and making each day count," the wise Rose tells him before ditching the priceless jewel in the sea.
"That really sucks, lady," obvious guy in the background points out. No, what really sucks is that it took this long for us to see this alternate ending. It's like a choose-your-own-adventure Titanic version — for cynics. (BuzzFeed)
Ahead, the original ending for comparison's sake.
