In case you needed proof that no-makeup makeup is on the rise, see this: The trend has made its way to a major women's magazine, with Kerry Washington's gorgeous, fresh-faced visage for Allure's November issue. A cosmetics-focused magazine putting a celebrity with barely-there makeup on its cover is a pretty big deal, to say the least.
No-makeup makeup has been paraded down the runways and snapped on Instagram. But, Allure's inclusion of this stripped-down trend shows that it's being embraced on a larger scale.
Sure, Kerry's definitely not 100% makeup-free in this photo. She's got a touch of brown shadow on, a coat or two of mascara, some kind of base products, and a dab of balm on her lips. But, compared to other magazine covers, which feature famous faces virtually transformed by cosmetics into representations of edginess or sophistication or full-on vamping, this is a total 180. We love makeup as much as the next girl, but every now and then it's nice to see a more toned-down look that celebrates the natural beauty of the star being photographed. It helps balance out all the glitz and glamour. And, Kerry looks positively radiant. Who knows — this could be a sign of things to come.
