Kelly Clarkson is no stranger to cover songs. As the original American Idol, the singer first seared herself onto the public's collective consciousness by taking other people's hits, and in the illustrious words of one Simon Cowell, "making them her own."
Six studio albums and three Grammys later, and Clarkson still isn't done making songs her own. The new mother took the stage at a free concert in Charlotte over the weekend, and delighted audiences when she sang a powerful rendition of Sam Smith's summer earworm "Stay With Me."
"Anybody like Sam Smith here?" She asked the crowd. "I love this song and I know you probably have heard it a bunch," she said before launching into the track.

This isn't the only amazing cover of Smith's ballad, but it's definitely our favorite. Not to self: Don't ever do karaoke with Kelly Clarkson.
Watch her belt it out below, and you'll see why.
