Helen Mirren Is The New U.K. Ambassador For L’Oréal

The over-50 set is having quite a moment in the beauty industry. Charlotte Rampling has smoldered for NARS and Jessica Lange has rocked it for Marc Jacobs Beauty. But, one question had been lingering in our minds: Where is Helen Mirren? Why has no one scooped up that gorgeous, cotton candy-haired woman and given her a beauty campaign? Well, the Dame's time has come: She is the new U.K. ambassador for L'Oréal Paris.

Helen joins a list of luminaries, including Naomi Watts, Karlie Kloss, and Lea Michele. It's interesting to note that shortly after signing 22-year-old Karlie, the brand has brought onboard Helen, 69. Jane Fonda, 76, has been the only spokeswoman older than Mirren. But, while it's amazing that L'Oréal and other big names have been hiring more mature faces, we'd love to see all of them feature more women of color — it would have a huge impact on the industry.

Since Helen is a U.K. ambassador, we may not be lucky enough to see any of her campaigns stateside. Still, this decision means we're continuing to move in the right direction when it comes to agism. And, in our humble opinion, there's no one better to kick down the idea that "younger is prettier" than Helen Mirren.
