Let's be real — at some point we've all spotted a loose $20 and snatched it up without hesitation. Hey, no judgment. But, what would you do if you stumbled upon $120K, with no owner in sight? For one Bay Area resident, the answer was easy: Return the money. Duh.
According to SF Gate, an off-duty California Highway Patrol sergeant spotted something in the road while driving in Concord, and stopped to investigate. It turns out the obstruction was created by two bank deposit bags in the middle of the street that contained a grand total of about $120K. After some investigating, police were able to locate the money's owner and return it safely. And, good thing they did, because the cash turned out to be a family's entire life savings.
"It was the right thing to do," says the sergeant, who does not want her name released. "I am paid to uphold the law and it's my job to set the example, whether I’m working or not. I am happy to hear the rightful owner was identified and that the money has been returned."
Our faith in humanity is officially restored.
