Is Selena Gomez’s New Song About Justin Bieber?

"As I have a last listen, I thought a lot about my year. I thought a lot about my voice. And after a year of holding on. I think it's time to start sharing. #November," Selena Gomez wrote in the caption of a photo on Instagram a few days ago. Now, we know what she was talking about. Gomez released an extremely intimate new song called "The Heart Wants What It Wants" early this morning. It starts with a voicemail message that sounds a lot like one you could imagine her leaving about Justin Bieber.
"I know him though, and I know his heart, and I know what he wouldn't do to hurt me. But I didn't realize that...I'm feeling so confident and feeling so great about myself, and then it'd just be completely shattered by one thing, by something so stupid. But then he'd make me feel crazy, he'd make me feel like it's my fault. I was in pain," Gomez says through tears.

We then watch Gomez get ignored and trivialized by actor Shiloh Fernandez, who also starred with her in a video for Flaunt in 2013. It's an extremely personal song — one which many of the singer's fans will unfortunately be able to empathize with. The recurring line and song title — that the heart wants what it wants — is sadly too true a lot of the time.
Gomez is also following in the footsteps of her friend Taylor Swift. She's responding to fans' Instagram comments with long, heartfelt messages. "I encourage you to find your purpose," she wrote to a fan. "What are you suppose [sic] to be in this life? I can tell you one thing I've learned...it's something great. Whatever you choose. It's just great, because it's you."
Right back at you, Gomez. You do you.
