First, eBay collectors came for our Cabbage Patch dolls. Then, they came for our Beanie Babies. Now, collectors are willing to shell out hundreds or even thousands of dollars for original American Girl dolls from the '90s.
The minimum bid for these limited edition rain boots and umbrella is $65.99. You don't want McKenna to get soggy on your way the American Girl Café, obviously. The Daily Mail found what it calls an "ambitious seller" auctioning two dolls together for $1,990. It seems that the pricier packages come with a lot more than just a "retired" doll, like different outfits, books, and various tchotchkes. And then there are the folks who are just shamelessly selling naked Samanthas that look like they've been in the back of someone's closet for a decade. Rude.
