A.P.C. Debuts A Legit “Douche” Bag

A.P.C. may be the purveyor of effortless, pared-down, French cool (and $120 Kanye West-designed white T-shirts), but the label’s latest offering swaps toggle coats and trousers for something, um, a bit unexpected.
In what is perhaps the greatest retail news we've heard all month, designer Jean Touitou announced he’s rolling out a selection of "douche" bags starting next week (not those kind of douche bags, though).
“It’s impossible to translate the French expression ‘mise en abyme,’” Touitou explained about the bag’s name. “Those who know, don’t say. And those who say, don’t know. I will simply say this about the douche bag: it’s an excellent, all-purpose pouch for men (and women can use it, too).”
The French translation of “douche” is shower, so think of this small pouch as a chic alternative to the classic men’s dopp kit. Available in black, white, yellow, grey, and khaki, the lamb’s leather knapsacks will land in A.P.C. stores next week for $135 a pop.
Oh, and don't worry — Touitou is totally in on the joke, too. He added, “It made me laugh so hard when I found out people really thought we were launching a brand of bags named 'Douche, Paris'... whenever I am depressed, this does like three Xanax to me.” Good to know that even major fashion designers aren't immune to a little middle-school humor, either.
