A lot comedians have Joan Rivers to thank for blazing a trail for them. But, none feel more like a direct descendant of Rivers than Amy Schumer. So, when Schumer took the stage at Glamour's 2014 Women of the Year Awards to honor the late comedian earlier this month, you knew she'd pull out all the stops.
"She wasn't just a woman or a person. She was a comic, and wanted to be treated as such," Schumer told the hushed audience at Carnegie Hall. "I'm sure this speech would annoy her," Schumer added. "She didn't want to be given credit for aspiring women. She wanted to be known as a great comedian. And, she was."
In true Joan Rivers fashion, Schumer made sure to lighten the mood with a few acerbic self-deprecating jabs. "These are New York arms, right?" she said, letting everyone know that she's a native New Yorker. "In L.A., these register as legs."
