Is Jennifer Aniston finally having her Oscar moment? It sure feels that way.
Critics were abuzz when her upcoming indie dramedy, Cake, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. And, now we know why. Aniston is nearly unrecognizable as Claire Simmons, a physically and emotionally damaged woman who suffers from chronic pain. When she joins a therapy group in an attempt to get better, Claire becomes obsessed with a former group member who committed suicide (Anna Kendrick).
Aniston previously showed off her dramatic chops to great effect in The Good Girl, but her performance here looks completely next level. Aside from going sans makeup, Aniston also let herself go — physically — for the performance. "I basically just didn't work out for two-and-a-half months," she said at an American Cinematheque screening of the film in L.A. last week. "I stopped working out and I stopped being as careful about my diet as I normally am."
