Good news to people who've suddenly found themselves with earbuds permanently embedded in their ears, Sarah Koenig's voice soothingly playing on repeat! Serial is getting a second season. You may have noticed on the last episode that, as is customary for the medium, Koenig made a call for donations. For the first round, the show has been living mostly off of money from This American Life. Yes, there are the illustrious MailKimp ads (as well as the less-talked-about Squarespace ads), but that's not enough. So, they asked for users to donate $10 by text, and it worked.
The staff announced on the Serial site today that they've raised enough for a second season, along with sponsorship. That means a new case, a new story, and a new collective Internet obsession. No word yet on what exactly it will be, but rest assured, our Google alerts are set up.
You can still donate by texting "Serial" to 25383, if you are so inclined.
