HBO’s Standalone Service Arrives In April With Game Of Thrones

Winter is coming. And, so is a new era of HBO. Back in October, the premium cable network announced that it would be offering an online-only streaming service set to be available some time next year. That means anyone unwilling to invest in a cable package could still watch their favorite HBO series without stealing their parents' HBO Go passwords.
On Tuesday, Fortune reported that HBO is readying the standalone service for an April launch, just in time for what's likely to be its most highly trafficked night of the year: the fifth season premiere of Game of Thrones.

To ensure that none of its trademark outages occur on what should be a monumental night of television, HBO has enlisted the help of MLB Advanced, a company with streaming technology used by MLB.com, the WWE Network, and WatchESPN.
HBO has yet to confirm whether or not the new service will include its entire back catalog, or if it will simply provide subscribers with a way to livestream the channel. But, if HBO plans on competing with Netflix and its gargantuan content library, making all of the network's shows available seems like the best way to go.
HBO has yet to comment. (Mashable)
