Anyone who's seen The Theory Of Everything already knows about Eddie Redmayne's transformative performance as Stephen Hawking, the brilliant physicist and best-selling author who defied his ALS diagnosis at age 21 to live a long and celebrated life. Equally absorbing was Felicity Jones as Hawking's first wife, Jane Wilde, who had three children with Hawking while pursuing her own PhD (well, we officially feel unaccomplished).
At last night's London premiere of the film, we got to witness an epic moment as the real-life and movie versions of Hawking and Wilde convened on the red carpet. Wilde wore a floor-length spangly gown topped with a plush jacket, while Jones wore a show-stopping white Dior gown with the widest skirt we've seen this side of Marie Antoinette. (Guess she's officially on board with Jennifer Lawrence's quest to make 18th-century silhouettes a thing again.)
The gentlemen, meanwhile, looked downright dashing, with Hawking's tie matching Redmayne's royal-blue suit.
It was genuinely heartwarming to see Hawking and Wilde together with their screen doubles — and looking happy, with all clearly forgiven after their sometimes-tumultuous marriage (which ended in 1995). Mark our words: Next stop, Oscars.
