We once lived in a world where each year promised us a new Rihanna album. Between 2005 and 2012, there was only one year in which RiRi didn't drop a record, and what a cold, dark year 2008 was.
Unfortunately, we currently find ourselves in the biggest Rihanna drought since she burst onto the scene a decade ago. But, if the rumors are to be believed, 2015 will be the year we finally get the follow-up to 2012's Unapologetic.
So far, so good.
The new year is barely underway, and a new track has already emerged online. That's the good news. The bad news is that it's called "World Peace" and it's really not very good. The production sounds like a step back creatively for the singer, as though it could be a B-side from her 2010 album "Loud," which relied heavily on the '90s dance sound that's employed here. Don't even get us started on the dated dubstep drop or those cloying lyrics. Inspired writing this is not.
Rihanna has been pushing the creative envelope her entire career, so when her new album does finally come out, we expect this one to remain on the cutting room floor. That said, new Rihanna is still new Rihanna, so give it a listen below.
