The Netflix of television viewing has arrived.
Dish network announced today the impending launch of its new "over-the-top" television streaming service Sling TV, due out sometime during the first quarter of 2015. Cord cutters and those individuals who just don't bother to pay for a cable subscription will be able to watch live TV via their Wi-Fi connections from channels like TNT, TBS, CNN, Food Network, HGTV, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Disney, ESPN, and ESPN2. Since the service runs off of a subscriber's Internet connection, favorite shows can be watched and experienced on-the-go with Android and iOS apps.

At launch, Sling TV will also work with Roku players, LG smart TVs, Xbox One, Amazon Fire TV and stick, and the Google Nexus Player. It'll set subscribers back $20 a month, but the subscription doesn't come with a contract, commitment, or installation cost. This means one can essentially cancel at anytime if they aren't feeling the Sling TV experience.
Dish president and CEO Joseph P. Clayton said in a press release: "Sling TV provides a viable alternative for live television to the millennial audience. This service gives millions of consumers a new consideration for pay-TV; Sling TV fills a void for an underserved audience."
As cool as this may be, $20 a month for a little over 10 channels and $5 bonus packages for kids and news outlets could be a bit steep. Major pay-TV cable companies like Verizon FiOS offer 61 channels for $10.00 a month. But, hey, this is the first of its kind and clearly the future is now. (Dish)
