In a world where extreme cleavage is considered more of a fashion statement than an obscenity — and going sans pants on the red carpet is a no-brainer — you’d think it would take a lot of scandal (and very little fabric) for people to deem an outfit too inappropriate for public consumption. But, judging from Rita Ora’s recent controversial appearance on BBC this week, all it really takes is a low-cut tuxedo jacket. The pop star stopped by The One Show in London to promote the new season of The Voice UK, wearing a cleavage-baring, white pantsuit — and this seemingly innocuous appearance made the audience seriously angry.
According to The Daily Mail, BBC received more than 400 complaints from viewers about the ensemble. The complainers were mostly furious that Ora would opt for something so revealing on a family-oriented program. There were so many Twitter comments that BBC eventually issued a statement, saying that the show "allows guests to choose their own attire and pop stars often opt for something glamorous or striking. We didn’t feel that Rita’s outfit would be outside of most viewers’ expectations of that of a major pop star, but we appreciate that tastes vary.” And, perhaps to appease those who took offense, the company stated that if BBC staff had been consulted, they “would have requested she wore something more suitable for 7 p.m." Yikes. Is something like this really worth the Internet outrage? Watch the clip below, and weigh in on the look in the comments. (The Daily Mail)
