You’ll Want To Steal Kristen Stewart’s Rock-‘N’-Roll Smoky Eye

If there's one thing we know about Kristen Stewart's makeup, it's that she loves a good statement eye. Her liner of choice is usually inky black, which is why we were totally smitten with the hue she landed on for her appearance at a screening of Still Alice. Kristen opted for a jewel-toned blue — which matched the piping on her outfit for the evening — leaving the rest of her face very minimal.
Makeup artist Beau Nelson layered Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Bleu Métallique over an ebony black. "I think that's a very easy way to make a jewel-toned metallic more wearable," Nelson said. "Layer it over a black to soften [the color] a little bit." The black also added some edge, keeping the look from being too runway. As for the shape, Nelson thinned out the liner toward the inner corner of the eye in order to really make the shocking blue stand out. "The blue is the most intense at the tear duct, which really showcases that particular shade," he said.

For the rest of the face, Nelson followed Kristen's lead and left things polished, but not too done. "I feel like makeup brings out certain assets of people," he said. "Kristen feels strong and sexy when she has an eye on, but I don't think she'd feel strong and sexy if she had everything on." So, he just enhanced Kristen's skin with a touch of light-coverage makeup and concealer, as well as a subtle contour.
That's why we're digging this: A jewel-toned smoky eye can easily teeter into too-much territory. But, Kristen's looks as if she just got off-stage at a rock-'n'-roll show. Her skin has a glow, which makes her approachable. It's a typical K-Stew look — one we feel like we can do a version of in our bathrooms — but, with an unexpected pop of color. Who doesn't love a little surprise like that?
