Patiently, we've been waiting for Alexander Wang to announce his foray into furniture. If the decor in his stores is any indication (we often walk by the Soho boutique just to gaze longingly at the hammock there), it would be cool and comfortable — and black and leather. Well, the time has come. Wang is gingerly dipping his toe into the design pool with the very cool, 101-year-old Italian label Poltrona Frau this February.
Of course, comfort and normality are the keystones of the three-piece collection — starting with the familiar college bean bag. As Wang told WSJ, "We always had them in the TV room. But, I like to recontextualize what is banal, what is luxurious. To make it with Poltrona, that just completely changes it. And yet, at the end of the day, it’s still a bean-bag chair. I love that.” But, his certainly isn't banal. It's $8,800. The two other pieces set to debut in February are a black shearling chair and matching bar cabinet in leather. We aren't complaining that we can't afford it. Maybe in five years, he'll be designing an H&M home line. Legs crossed. Click over to the Wall Street Journal for the full feature.
