What are you doing this Saturday? Cancel it. Your friends/family members/dog will understand. For one day only, Amazon is making all 10 episodes of its groundbreaking series Transparent available for free. The show took home the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy Series, and star Jeffrey Tambor received the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series. If you haven't yet watched an episode, it's time to binge on all 10.
The series was written, directed, and produced by Jill Soloway, who was inspired by her own trans* parent. Tambor plays Maura Pfefferman, whose close-knit yet dysfunctional family members are dealing with their own issues when they learn about their patriarch's late-in-life transition.
As Tambor acknowledged in his Globes acceptance speech, "This is much bigger than me." He thanked the trans* community for its courage, inspiration, and patience. "Thank you for letting us be a part of the change," he said. It's an important show — and it's also a fantastically written, produced, and acted one.
Normally, Transparent is only available to Amazon Prime members, so be sure to take advantage of this one-day-only opportunity to watch it. The company is also offering a discount on Prime that day — $72 versus the usual $99 membership — to celebrate the show's success. Soloway is already at work on a second season.
