Someone Is Trying To Make Frog-Flavored Potato Chips Happen

Designed by Emily Zirimis.
We live in an age where novelty foods like Sriracha beer and Oreo churros barely raise eyebrows anymore. There seems to be a weird new flavor invention debuting every other day. Now Frito-Lay — the company who started it all with its cappuccino and wasabi-flavored chips — is back in the race with a possible frog-flavored product in the works. Say, what? The label is in its third year of hosting the "Do Us A Flavor" competition — a call for submissions for out-of-the-box ingredients and chip flavors. This year, Lay's is partnering with Google for an additional feature: Contestants are asked to enter their location along with their concepts. The results are then curated into a "Flavorcast Heat Map," which shows the top trending suggestions in each state. There are your shoo-ins like 'Buffalo Chicken Dip' or 'Lox,' but some states favor ideas that are a little...peculiar, to say the least. The most popular entry in Alabama is currently 'Frog,' while the folks in Kansas are hoping for 'Kangaroo'-flavored potato chips. (Really, Kansas?) Since the winning flavor gets to be mass produced, here's hoping that these contestants are simply trolling us and their ideas fall by the wayside. But, if you see frog-flavored chips on your next grocery store run, now you know why.
