There's a fine line between powerful and saccharine when it comes to music videos with a message. Thankfully, Carrie Underwood's latest strikes the right balance.
Today, the six-time Grammy winner released the video for "Little Toy Guns" on her Facebook page. "As a special thanks for all of your support over the years I want YOU to be the first to see my brand new video for 'Little Toy Guns!'” she wrote.
The video closely follows the song's narrative of a little girl learning to cope with fighting parents. The somber lyrics are elevated to fairytale heights when the girl turns into the hero that seeks to quell whatever tension exists between her mom and dad. Pops of color and smoke match the upbeat tempo of the track. Underwood gets the message across without any pandering.
In other news, Carrie Underwood is up for two Grammys this year: Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Find out whether she takes home gold when the Grammys air on February 8 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
