E.L. James and Fifty Shades Director Sam Taylor-Johnson Disagreed Over Sex Scenes

It seems like the fight for dominance behind the scenes of Fifty Shades of Grey wasn't nearly as sexy* as any between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele onscreen.  Author E.L. James and director Sam Taylor-Johnson didn't quite see eye to eye on how much sex should be left on the cutting room floor, according to a feature in Porter magazine. Saving Mr. Banks screenwriter Kelly Marcel penned the adaptation of James's first book, but Taylor-Johnson has been the more outspoken about the changes made to the book.  "It was difficult, I'm not going to lie. We definitely fought but they were creative fights and we would resolve them," the Nowhere Boy director said. “We would have proper on-set barneys, and I'm not confrontational, but it was about finding a way between the two of us, satisfying her vision of what she'd written as well as my need to visualize this person on screen but, you know, we got there." That included, we presume, removing the tampon scene from the final cut. Taylor-Johnson, who is actually quite fabulous and talented, also noted that she hired a professional dominant to advise Jamie Dornan "to show him how it all worked," adding, "I had a female dominatrix who helped enhance my understanding." Guess Dornan was too busy being amused by his trip to a "sex dungeon" to learn much about the motivation behind his character's proclivities.  *Relatively speaking, of course — we haven't seen Fifty Shades yet and can't judge whether or not the stars' seeming disgust for each other translates into hot onscreen chemistry.
