Sony Top Exec Amy Pascal Resigning

Amy Pascal, one of the most powerful women in Hollywood, is stepping down from her position as a co-chairwoman of Sony Pictures Entertainment. The exec's contract has been up for renewal for the past several months, which was surely unfortunate timing given the massive Sony hack and ensuing brouhaha over The Interview. Pascal will get a four-year production deal with Sony. In addition to revealing a massive amount of personal information about Sony employees, the hack also revealed some questionable email exchanges between Pascal and colleagues like producer Scott Rudin. You can read more about them here. (One moral quandary the hack brought up for reporters was how such a breach of privacy should be covered, especially given the well-deserved ire raised by the 2014 celeb photo hack known as "Celebgate" and "The Fappening.") Pascal's move to production is a pretty sweet deal, but it still feels like punishment when others got off scot-free. The most eyebrow-raising emails were between Pascal and producer Scott Rudin, where they joked about what kind of movies Obama might like. "I bet he likes Kevin Hart," Rudin wrote. Yikes. It's interesting that a man known as "The Biggest A-hole in Hollywood" is still running amok while Pascal is resigning, but we're sure plenty more information and analysis will come to light soon enough.
