Is Half-Done Hair Officially A Thing?

Whenever Madonna steps out on a red carpet, you know her look is going to be something major. But, at tonight's Grammy Awards, Madge was wearing something we've seen before — kind of. The iconic singer opted for pin curls, but instead of taking them out, she left those suckers up — bobby pins and all. Say hello to the half-done hairstyle. It's something that has popped up before — and, actually, it's the musicians who seem to be spearheading this trend. At the American Music Awards two years ago, Rihanna showed up with her hair wrapped and pinned around her head in a style similar to something one of our staffers uses to air-dry her hair straight. More recently, Bruno Mars showed up on The Voice rocking golden curlers in his mane. So, what's the deal? Why are stars stopping their styling sessions mid-way and calling it a hairstyle? We've seen a gradual movement on the runways toward hairstylists taking accessories that were once meant to be hidden — bobby pins, hair bungees, barrettes, hairnets — and making them a visible focal point of their styles. It's another form of artistic hair expression, and it's been interesting to see all the different, creative ways they've been using them and how that has translated to the red carpet. We're expecting to see this trend pick up even more steam in the coming year — it's definitely adding some intrigue to the usual round-up of glamour waves and braids that usually dominate awards show beauty.
