Shocker: Saturday Night Live's 40th Anniversary Special was just as exhilarating as it looked. Just ask Jimmy Fallon.
The Tonight Show host couldn't help but gush — and, he admitted, name-drop — about the festivities on Sunday night. Speaking to Steve Higgins and Questlove on last night's show, Fallon shared his hilarious anecdotes from the evening before. We're all just dying inside a bit because we weren't there.
It all started with a random hangout involving Fallon, Justin Timberlake, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Lorne Michaels, Jerry Seinfeld, Jack Nicholson, and Paul McCartney. Fallon then tied Tom Hanks' shoe as a joke and earned a $20 tip. Long story short, everyone was hilarious and having the time of their lives.
Then it was off to the after-party at the Plaza Hotel. That's where Fallon ended up being emcee to a rotating band that included Blondie's Debbie Harry singing with Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift jamming out with McCartney, Bill Murray on the tambourine, Elvis Costello, Michael Bolton, The B-52s, and, eventually, Prince. We're not sure which story is funnier: Questlove's gripe about Cyrus' sad song about her dead goldfish, or Fallon trying to reenact the purple smoke and levitation that signaled Prince's entrance.
Man, we wish we'd been there.
