Welcome to New York, indeed.
Youngsters in the Big Apple have a new reason to idolize Taylor Swift. Actually, make that $50,000 reasons.
In keeping with her pledge to donate proceeds from her song "Welcome To New York" to the city that inspired it, Swift has donated $50,000 to New York City public schools. An official with the Department of Education confirmed the generous bequest after Capital filed a Freedom of Information request.
“I am informed that Taylor Swift has made a donation of $50,000 to the DOE, without restrictions to support DOE schools,” the official responded.
While Swift is currently in London, the NYC Global Welcome Ambassador now considers Manhattan her home. It is, after all, where you'll find BFF-in-Chief Karlie Kloss — not to mention a whole lot of lucky schoolkids. Well done, Swifty! [Capital]
