So, this is devastating. Lupita Nyong'o's stunning Oscars dress, made of 6,000 natural Akoya pearls, was stolen from the starlet's West Hollywood hotel room on Tuesday.
TMZ reports that Lupita told police the dress went missing between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday. There is security footage that is being reviewed, the site's source said.
And, this happened right before Lupita's birthday. We're crushed for her.
Described as "liquid beauty" by Calvin Klein and custom-designed by women's creative director Francisco Costa, the intricate pearl-and-ivory beaded gown, valued at $150,000, was a clear winner on the evening's red carpet. (Not that we'd expect any less from the sartorial goddess.) Seriously, even J.K. Simmons couldn't resist her allure.
We can't imagine anyone going unnoticed trying to wear that thing for a night out in Beverly Hills, but who knows what the thieves (with extremely good taste) have planned. We're crossing our fingers that the cops are able to work their magic. Keep the dream alive and check out Vogue.com for the story behind the dress, including 19 glorious behind-the-scenes pictures.
