Lena Dunham Reveals Why Twitter Is Too Much For Her

If you're one of Lena Dunham's more than 2 million Twitter followers,
we have some bad news for you: She's not reading your tweets. The actress talked social media at the Girls panel at PaleyFest in Los Angeles over the weekend,
where she spilled that she doesn't look at her Twitter account
anymore.

The tweets, however, still come from her: Dunham sends them to
someone who posts them for her and fills her in on anything important
going on in the Twittersphere.

Dunham explained why it became too much for her and offered some advice for anyone using social media — celebrity or not. "You think you
can take it all," she told the crowd. "Like, ‘Oh my God, that’s so
funny, somebody called me a
fat cow who deserves to be dragged through the street.’
But, it does
affect you internally."

Pretending you're indifferent to mean things
people say about you? That only works for so long. "I was like, ‘The
spelling’s so bad, I’m not taking
these people seriously. They have eggs for avatars, I don’t care!’ Then
you walk through the day, and these horrible phrases are being repeated
through your head."

We've all been there: trying our hardest to convince ourselves
that something doesn't bother us, when it really does. Next time it
happens, pull a Dunham and just admit it — even if you don't have an auditorium filled with people to sympathize with you.
