Kurt Cobain: Montage Of
Heck
wowed Sundance audiences with its never-before-seen footage of Kurt
Cobain's life and art, and this first trailer promises it will live up to the
hype. It's a multimedia venture that uses tons of home movies, interviews, and
animation to create a portrait of the man behind the teen spirit.

Director Brett Morgen (Chicago
10
, The Kid Stays in the Picture)
told Yahoo: "Kurt’s family, Courtney and Frances, as well as his mom and
dad, provided me with the bulk of the materials that make up Montage of Heck. It was a unique
situation in that I was granted final cut of the film, which I believe is significant
in several respects. Given the access I had to Kurt’s primary sources as well
as the people he was most intimate with during his lifetime, I believe this
might be as close to Kurt as we are likely to get." Even Frances Bean Cobain, who executive produced the doc, gave it her seal of approval.

Whether you were In Utero when Kurt shuffled off this
mortal coil or if you remember exactly where you were on April 5, 1994, this
doc should be on your must-see list this spring.

Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck premieres on HBO on May 4. [The Playlist]
