Natalie Imbruglia's announcement that she’s got a new album
coming out on April 21 has us feeling a little “Torn.” On one hand, we’ve
missed the little Aussie pop star so much! On the other, the album will be
comprised only of covers of songs by men. And, it will be called Male. Where’s our mug full
of male tears when we need it?!
Male will include Imbruglia’s
take on Daft Punk’s “Instant Crush,” as well as songs by Cat Stevens, Tom
Petty, and other dudes. Imbruglia chose “Instant Crush” because “it is such a
beautiful story that I want people to hear it and connect with the words. I’m
really proud of the way it turned out."
But, wait. What’s that you say? “Torn” is actually a cover?
Yep, it was by the band Ednaswap, and it’s really good. That’s not much
consolation for the folks in Ednaswap, of course, but it’s better than a kick
in the pants. Too bad they don’t get paid every time someone performs “Torn” at
karaoke. [EW]
