Britney Spears hasn't exactly been sitting around on her
butt, basking in the glory of olden days. She's been working that butt off,
racking up close to 100 shows so far in her residency at Planet Hollywood in
Las Vegas. Still, that hasn't stopped all her fans from wondering: When will
she give us something new? Calm yourselves, insatiable consumers!
"I'm gonna do [a new album] slowly but surely,"
Spears told Billboard in this week's cover story. "There's a lot going on
with my kids and schools and, you know, adding new sports and stuff like that.
I'm gonna try to do my best to do an amazing album, but it's not my full
priority right now."
To which we say, "Oh, good." Because we all know
what happens when Brit gets overwhelmed with personal and public pressure. Or when she rushes. Her
last album, 2013's Britney Jean, didn't perform all that well, so perhaps she should have
waited a beat longer after the success of 2011's amazing Femme Fatale. Then
again, her Vegas shows have been such a hit, she's in talks to extend her
residency for another two years — so Britney fandom is alive and
well.
Manager Larry Rudolph played the whole "albums don't
matter in the digital age" card, and said they'd be concentrating on
making a few really good singles. We can probably settle for that. For now,
Britney. Just for now.
