Guess Which Swimsuit Trend Works For The Red Carpet, Too

If you were attending a red carpet event, you probably wouldn’t reach for your cutout swimsuit. Coachella or a pool party, sure. But, the launch party for People magazine's German edition last night probably called for a different dress code. Yet, Diane Kruger proved that there’s a bit of wiggle room, wearing a dress that managed to be both black tie and serve up some major swimwear vibes. First seen on the spring ’15 runway, Kruger’s dress was an ornate creation from Sarah Burton’s Alexander McQueen collection. The layers and layers of ruffles and textured, petaled bodice of the gown made it the kind of fantasy design for which the brand in known. But, a peek at the side revealed cutouts all along the actress’ torso and back. Those revealing details paired with a bralette-style neckline, and the dress comes out looking not unlike your favorite beach gear. The sexy, slim top contrasts especially well with the floaty skirt, both in silhouette and in texture. And, because a dress this special shines on its own, Kruger kept her accessories clean: strappy white sandals and a matching box clutch. It's not quite the Miley-Cyrus school of swimsuit cutouts, but this look is definitely not playing it safe, either.
