Rumor: Apple Could Be Releasing 3 iPhone 6 Models

Apple could be working on a new plastic iPhone 6C this year, according to a rumor from Digitimes. That means that this fall, we could end up seeing three new iPhone models: an iPhone 6S, a 6S Plus, and a 6C. If you're eligible for new phone this year, man, you could have some colorful choices ahead of you. In 2013, Apple introduced the iPhone 5c as a more colorful, affordable handset alongside the launch of the iPhone 5s. Priced at $99 (with a two-year plan), it came in green, pink, white, blue, and yellow variants, and while its outer shell featured a new look, inside, it was basically an iPhone 5, with the same 8-megapixel camera and A6 processor, but with better battery life. Apple will reportedly quit producing the iPhone 5c later this year (possibly because, well, it'll be selling a new version). According to Digitimes, the iPhone 6C would reportedly follow the same model as the 5c: Inside, it would use the same A8 processor as the iPhone 6. The new 6S and 6S Plus would get faster, more efficient A9 chips. The 6C is rumored to be a 4-inch device, rather than the larger 4.7 and 5.5-inch sizes of the 6 and 6 Plus, which is might be good news for those of us who would like a slightly smaller phone. According to Digitimes, the 6C would also reportedly feature Apple's new Force Touch technology, which it introduced on the new 12-inch MacBook and in the screen on the Apple Watch. Force Touch is a newly developed haptic feedback feature: When you press downward on your device's screen, the vibration of Force Touch mimics the sensation of pressing down on a button. We tried it out on both the Apple Watch and the new Macbook, and if you didn't know Force Touch was a haptic feedback illusion, you'd never guess. It's actually kind of trippy. The iPhone 6C would purportedly also include Touch ID and NFC, so you'd be able to use it with Apple Pay. And while we've been referring to it with a capital C, the phone could just as easily be the iPhone 6c, since Apple often switches up its product name capitalization conventions.  A lot of industry folks claimed that the iPhone 5c never sold as well as the flagship 5s, but that wasn't really true. If Apple is in fact working on a new plastic iPhone, it's clear that the phone did bring in big money for Apple, and it hopes to continue to capitalize on its position in its smartphone offerings.
