This Is How Taylor Swift Does “Edgy”

Taylor Swift is many things: grammar policeworld leader, queen of the photobomb, and,
of course, Grammy-winning pop superstar. But, we have to admit, the latest addition to her growing list of accomplishments may be the most surprising yet. Over the past couple of months, the 25-year-old has
slowly inched her way into “edgy” style territory, with some carefully-plotted
red carpet appearances. First, there was that bright green Julian MacDonald
number
she sported at the Elle Style Awards (complete with on-trend slicked-back hair,
no less). Then, she took things a step further at the Brit Awards in her red and black serpent-encrusted Roberto Cavalli gown. And, this weekend, T.Swift showed off her latest foray into daring fashion in a black KaufmanFranco minidress at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Covered in intricate beadwork and boasting a bandeau-cutout silhouette (not unlike Naomi Watts' Oscar stunner), the dress may not have been scandalous by many celebrity standards, but it did show off just enough skin to warrant a second glance. Thanks to details like her high-cut neckline and effortless-seeming beauty look, the overall effect still managed to stay firmly planted on the demure side of the spectrum. Maybe the inspiration came from BFF Karlie Kloss, or her co-performer Madonna — either way, we applaud Taylor's foray into more daring style moves. And, considering that Swift took home the biggest prize of the night — the Artist of the Year Award — we think she might just be onto something with her new look. (Elle)
