Diane Kruger Makes A Denim-Midi Convert Out Of Us

We've been waxing poetic about the '70s takeover in fashion for a while now. But, we'd be lying if we said we didn't have our hesitations. Over the weekend, though, a certain German actress and personal-style icon donned one of these tricky revival silhouettes, and went a long way toward allaying our fears. If there's anyone who can make a denim-midi-skirt convert out of us, it's Diane Kruger. The actress was spotted in New York over the weekend in a heavily '70s-inspired ensemble. Our first hesitation about these midis stems from the material: It's a lot of jean to work with. Diane offset the bulkiness of the denim with a cropped knit, highlighting her waistline. She also lengthened her legs with another nod to the '70s: heeled ankle boots. While the midi-skirt was at the heart of her outfit, the suede booties, embossed crossbody, and retro shades also echoed fashions of decades past. The warmer temps allowed Kruger to venture out jacket-less, giving the denim number the spotlight it deserves. At a purely practical level, the denim midi is an ideal transitional piece. After months of layering, all we want is an ankle-baring silhouette. But, when the weather's not quite there yet, denim provides just enough warmth to let you set your ankles free.
