Who knew that the key to a free wedding is all in a name? Specifically, two last names, which also happen to be the moniker of a major fast food giant. Thanks to a viral photo (and what will go down in history as a genius, if unintentional, marketing ploy), Joel Burger and Ashley King's wedding will be entirely paid for by Burger King.
Here's what happened: According to Mashable, Burger and King, a couple from Illinois, met back in kindergarten, and are now engaged to be married. For their engagement photo, they posed in front of a local Burger King sign, and the picture went viral. The couple was initially unsuccessful in its attempts to contact Burger King, but after the media got involved, the fast food company took note, and has announced that it will pay for the entire wedding.
"We knew deep in our hearts that we wanted to honor the union of Mr. Burger and Ms. King in an unforgettable way. Everyone at Burger King Brand agreed and…we knew we wanted to create a 'whopper of a wedding' that's uniquely their own," Burger King spokesman Eric Hirschhorn told The State Journal-Register.
While not everyone would want a bunch of Burger King branding when they say, "I do," we have to commend Burger and King on their genius wedding hack. Maybe finding a way to create positive press for a successful company surrounding your big day will be the next big trend in cutting nuptial costs! Anyone engaged out there have the first or last names Ben and Jerry? Just saying, an ice cream-themed wedding sounds delicious. (Mashable)
