Last night, Sarah Jessica Parker took a major style risk, and we can't not say something. The actress showed up to a performance by alt-cabaret stars Bridget Everett and Ars Nova in more velour than you can shake your clutch at. Like, head to toe, blazer and dress. Yes, the result looked lovely, but the last time we saw the double-velour look, Sex and The City was actually on the air, and we thought Juicy was actually couture. That was a long time ago.
Still, her accidental ode to this taboo trend of yesteryear pleasantly surprised us. Turns out, velour-on-velour can actually work in 2015. Maybe the key takeaway here is that this ultra-plush approach looks way better in contrasting colors than, say, head-to-toe hot pink (we're looking at you, Paris).
The case of whether or not SJP was trying to send Paris Hilton a telepathic fashion telegram about those historic velour suits remains unsolved. But, we commend SJP for pushing the fashion envelope, reclaiming a look last seen on celebs with purse dogs, and actually making it work. Hey, maybe Carrie was right. Maybe mistakes really are what make our fate.
