Mary Kay Letourneau & Vili Fualaau Fighting Her Status As A Sex Offender

If you weren't out last night, you were no doubt glued to the TV screen —  and for good reason. Last night's episode of 20/20 saw Barbara Walters revisiting the story of Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau, who made headlines for their controversial teacher/student sexual affair.

In 1996, Letourneau, then 34 and married with four children, began a sexual affair with her 12-year-old student. After a relative of her husband exposed the affair, the teacher was arrested. She gave birth to Fualaau's daughter in May 1997 during her trial, which resulted in her pleading guilty to two charges of child rape. Letourneau served six months in jail under the condition that she cut off all contact with her young lover. Just two weeks after her release, the disgraced schoolteacher was found having sexual relations with Fualaau in a car. She again became pregnant, and gave birth to the couple's second daughter while serving a seven and a half-year prsion sentence. Upon her release in 2004, she and Fualaau fought to have the no-contact rule removed, and were married in 2005.  The couple, who are now 53 and 31, respectively, invited Walters into their home to share their story as their 10th wedding anniversary approaches. Among the revelations? The Fualaaus' teen daughters, 17-year-old Audrey and 16-year-old Georgia, attend the same school district in which their parents met.

Letourneau also revealed to Walters that she is now a grandmother (via children from her first marriage). She also plans to fight her status as a sex offender "Recently I said, 'It's been 10 years, why don't I lift that?'" she said. "There's a process, there's a form, you take it to court and then they grant it if it looks like it should be granted."    Meanwhile, Fualaau, who became a father when he was just 14, told American Scandals host Walters that he actually takes a hard line when it comes to his daughters dating. "When you're that young a relationship can lead to something you think you wanted back then, but not years later," Fualaau, who admitted to cheating on Letourneau during her prison term, said. "Don't put your all into something when it's just temporary."
