It looks like Barbie's retiring her SeaWorld wetsuit for good.
Mattel recently announced the end of all SeaWorld-related merchandise, including a series of SeaWorld Trainer Barbies, which began production in 2012.
"We’re not making the dolls anymore,” a Mattel spokesman told the New York Post. No word on the swimming dolphin belt.
The 2010 death of trainer Dawn Brancheau, and the shocking 2013 documentary Blackfish, have done quite a a number on SeaWorld's public image. A public image that certainly wasn't helped by the recent #AskSeaWorld Twitter debacle.
Prices for the "Barbie I Can Be SeaWorld Wildlife Rescuer Doll" are already being slashed, and we're sure they'll begin to fall even further in the coming weeks. Now if only Mattel would release these super cute "Sheroes" dolls of Kristin Chenoweth, Eva Chen, and Emmy Rossum for the masses — we'd buy 'em in a heartbeat.
