Today is a momentous day for many reasons: It's Audrey Hepburn's birthday, Star Wars Day (because "May the Fourth," geddit?), and, of course, Met Gala day. Thanks to heroes and honorary Jedis Solange Knowles and Anne Hathaway, those last two occasions have been combined in an unexpectedly elegant way, sure to quicken the heart of any mouth-breathing nerd who knows that "Wookiee" has two e's and that Han Solo shot first.
Anne Hathaway's Ralph Lauren gown could be mistaken for a luxe take on the Jawas' uniform of choice (albeit in this case, accessorized with a Repossi ear cuff). But, since Hathaway is probably not trying to align herself with a race of Tattoine-dwelling scavenger-demons, we're going to hazard a guess that the iconic Jedi robes are the inspiration instead.

Meanwhile, Knowles' Giles Deacon dress resembles none other than that target of the Jedi's wrath and the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star. Yes, mostly because it is big and round — although if you squint and look sideways, we can almost see the huge, gray weapon-planet in the dress' pleated, abstract design.
Accidental or not, we salute Hathaway and Knowles' tributes to the greatest sextology trilogy ever told. Will there be any more sci-fi celeb references in store? No sign yet, but as a wise man once said, "Always in motion is the future."
