Over the past several years, Rachel Antonoff has become
known and beloved by cool girls everywhere for her playful, feminine pieces.
Whether it’s the vintage-nodding “Mash” or “Birdie Forever” sweatshirts, or dresses covered in boob motifs, these clothes don’t just cause a double take — they’re guaranteed to start a conversation. Now, the New York designer hopes to start a conversation
of a different sort by collaborating with the Swedish retailer & Other Stories on a capsule collection that is probably inspired by a certain female presidential candidate.
The collection of collared dresses, sweet printed separates, and jumpsuits won't hit stores until May 12, but Antonoff gives us a sneak peek of what's to come early in the short film above. Lena Dunham directs Zoe Kazan in “Vote Audrey,” chronicling the campaign struggles of a canvassing political candidate. Decked out in Antonoff's candy-striped pantsuit and pastel-colored sundresses, Audrey attempts to be cheerful in the face of rejection.
Antonoff explained the concept behind the film to
The Telegraph: "This video sends a simple but important message: Never underestimate anyone based on their gender, race or sexuality. Women's empowerment goes hand in hand with people's empowerment."
Featuring dancing, confetti, and cute clothes (of course), the video attempts to be a take on girl power, and while actual politics are noticeably absent in the film (we're pretty sure there are nine Supreme Court Justices, not seven — and what exactly is a footrub subsidy?), it's still a visually fun way to sell a collection.
