There have always been hints that Anna Wintour, behind the chilly public persona that inspired The September Issue, is a warm, generous, funny person who’s more than game to be the butt end of a joke. Case in point: This glorious sketch that aired yesterday evening on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
In it, Wintour plays Meyers’ boss, the real creative force behind Late Night — and the genius behind a particular bit involving a past president and a town car. (Meyers: “It’s great when you get her approval. She pushes you really hard. And, you know, the sketch is a hundred times better than it was this morning, and I try so hard for her…” Wintour: “Stop crying. You’re a grown man.”)
Seth Meyers and his wife, Alexi Ashe, are frequent attendees of the NY fashion scene and are chummy with Anna. Their wedding was profiled in Vogue in 2013, and Meyers himself hosted the CFDA Awards in 2012 (he appeared on Conan to discuss it and revealed that it was Anna Wintour who suggested he wear the all-lace Marc Jacobs outfit). We’re not saying that they spend weekends in each other’s summer homes in The Hamptons and grab post-work chicken pot pies at The Waverly Inn...but we’re not not saying it, either.
Watch the clip above to catch (a fictionalized?) Anna working her voodoo at Late Night. More importantly, catch the green dandelion that is Wintour’s log-in user icon on her Macbook. Good choice, Anna.
