Back in in December, Deadline reported that Barack and Michelle Obama would be the subjects of an upcoming biopic. The film is called Southside With You. It tells the story of an afternoon in the summer of 1989 when a young associate at a law firm (Barack Obama) took his boss, Michelle Robinson, on a long, meandering date. Per Deadline, "The two visited the Art Institute, took a long walk, and caught a showing of Spike Lee’s new film, Do The Right Thing." The film is said to be in the vein of Before Midnight, another sprawling, getting-to-know-you tale.
Actress Tika Sumpter had already been cast as the future First Lady when the news was first reported. Today, we finally learned who will play the young Barack Obama. His name is Parker Sawyers. According to IMDb, his past credits include roles in Zero Dark Thirty, Hyde Park on Hudson, Lilyhammer, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
The Obamas have spoken adorably and fondly about their first date together, so let's see if Sumpter and Sawyers can replicate their chemistry in Southside With You. (The Wrap)
